Direct Sellers Stand To Gain In a Recession

According to this post by Denis on the 13th of February 2009, "Direct Sellers stand to benefit during a recession as recruiting sales representatives gets easier and consumers turn to low price products", according to the US Direct Selling Association. In recession, recruitment for sales representatives can become easier as many individuals are keen to supplement the family income. In this respect Avon as a direct seller of beauty and health care products definitely stand to gain although it has slashed it's forecast in recent months. Being a direct seller Avon is able to reduce cost through the elimination of many intermediaries down the supply-chain and is able to translate the lower cost into lower prices for it's customers. During a downturn consumers would naturally put the brakes on high spending and opt for reasonable priced products and in light of all this Avon as a direct seller may be able to put out a strong show even during this economic crisis.

Mark By Avon Make Up Bag Deal

According to this post on the 12th of February 2009 Avon cosmetics is offering a make-up kit for as low as $6. It's a bag full of make-up items and contains just everything from lipstick, mascarra, eyeshadows, facials and so on.....) Isn't that great news for all those women out there whose purses have become shallower due to the ongoing global financial crisis. Women especially teenage girls who don't have deep pockets to dig their hands into will definitely find this a good bargain especially in view of the recession hit economy. However to bag the deal purchasers will have to buy any Avon Mark product(hope you are already familliar with all Avon Mark products which includes anything from eyeliner to eyeshadow and so on) and get the bag for only $6 or purchasers can simply buy the bag full of costumes at a discounted price of $10. This is a great publicity stunt on the part of Avon Cosmetics to generate sales during a downturn by offering a group product at a discounted price.

Avon launches "Bond Girl 007"

On 27th May 2008 Avon products announced the launch of a new signature fragrance for women,Bond Girl 007 which it claims is a "sexy cocktail of velvety florals, cool freshness and warm woods."To this effect the cosmetics maker signed a licencing agreement with the James Bond entertainment franchisee,to create the new product line, which British actress Gemma Arterton would promote in her upcoming James Bond production,"Quantum of Solace".In this sense Avon has created the perfect collaboration between two globally recognizable companies. By partnering with James Bond Entertainment to create a new fragrance Avon has been able to bring a piece of the Bond Girl's glamour, represented in the movies into the lives of ordinary women all over the world. The iconic Bond Girls are one of the most widely known aspects of the Bond films-they are empowered, feminine and glamorous, and this association will definitely create an audiance with the young and energetic women who would love to own a bottle of this perfume.

Introduction

My name is Tauhid Ali. I am currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (BBA Hons. majoring in Marketing) at Multimedia University, Malaysia. I'll be making posts to this blog regarding Avon Cosmetics Incorporation. Mainly I’ll be touching on the marketing aspects of Avon, it’s products and any new product launches. As we all know Avon is one of the leading perfume, toy, and cosmetics seller in the world with operations spanning across 140 countries around the world and sales of $9.9 billion worldwide as of 2007. Avon is traditionally a direct marketing company. Avon uses both door-to-door sales people ("Avon ladies," primarily) and catalogs to advertise its products. In some markets (most notably China, which had banned all door-to-door selling before mid-December 2006) Avon products are sold primarily in retail stores. Avon's product lines include lipsticks, foundations, bath and skin lotions, anti-aging cream, perfumes, as well as jewelry and clothing. Although the company has always been more directed toward female customers, Avon's line of male products continues to expand, and its children's products (such as shampoos and toys) have also proved successful. In addition to its corporate pursuits, the Avon Corporation is involved in philanthropic causes, primarily centered on domestic violence, women's empowerment and health issues such as breast cancer.
